They are released every two years (such as 20.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS) and receive guaranteed security patches and critical updates for extended periods.
Unlike regular Ubuntu releases that are supported for 9 months, LTS versions provide 5 years of standard support on desktop systems and 10 years on Ubuntu Server. This makes them ideal for production environments, servers, and systems where stability and predictable update cycles are critical.
For example, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS was released in April 2022 and will receive updates until April 2027 (server support until 2032). Users can safely deploy and maintain an LTS system for years without facing sudden incompatibilities or forced major upgrades.
